'Kata'(forms) of Houryuin-Shinken which
originated from Chinese martial arts consists of the four concepts,
'Chi-Ku-Kai-Ten' ( Earth-Sky-Sea-Universe.) It might be a little
easier to understand to apply each specific movement to other
styles of martial arts , like you may find 'Chi' movements similar
to Karate, 'Ku' to Eishun-ken of Chinese martial art, and 'Kai'
to Tai Chi.
And only those who mastered these skills would deserve to proceed
the training level to 'Ten' along with 'Ki' ( a kind of "energy"
or "stuff" that flows within the body) discipline.
Here one should notice the most significant characteristic of
Houryuin-Shinken, that is an art of self-defense. So these techniques
are not for striving to defeat others but for learning to conquer
himself and to avoid meaningless fights.
Houryuin-Shinken is designed to help develop the qualities of
'Ryoku, Gi, Chi, Shin' ; Every disciple should fulfill 'Power'
(Chikara) , 'Technique' (Waza),'Intelligence' (Chi) and 'Soul'
(Kokoro) in harmony and also reflects those ideas to one's way
of life. Especially 'Kokoro' is literally a center of the principle
which requires the attitude to discipline oneself with all one's
heart as well as to consider and help others. The essence of
Houryuin-Shinken is to strive for achieving powers, techniques
and intelligence always with positive mind and to make it useful
for others, and then he would develop himself to be a person
with the ability to perform fully in a society. |
